Growing up, I was never artistic. I colored outside of the lines and didn’t win any awards for my stick people drawings. Any creativity I had came in the form of writing. However, I loved looking at old photos and taking photos on my own. For me, pictures could freeze time. For as long as I can remember, dating back to 110 and Polaroid film, I frequently had a camera stuffed in my purse. The difference now is that frequently has turned into (nearly) always and my camera is usually worn on my shoulder right alongside my purse.
Over the last few years my photography has developed into something more than a hobby and has become much more of a passion. In 2008, my hobby of photographing family holidays and events, progressed into a quest for capturing better photos. In 2009, with the encouragement of my then fiancé, close friends and a few family members, a leisurely pastime developed into a part time business and JJ McCarrens Photography was created.
My photograpicy style, should I have to label it, would be unconventional. I enjoy the classic, posed photographs however; I often find that sporadic, unpredicted moments can capture true personality for making priceless, photographic memories. Some of my favorite photographs have been those taken at unexpected times. I love capturing that unexpected moment of a person’s personality or mood. I enjoy turning something so natural into something artistic. I find it a joy as well as a challenge to attain that perfect, wonderful moment in a photo.
I am an on location, natural light photographer. Nature, architecture and historical locations can make for wonderful backgrounds.
Whether visiting my blog to pass time or to consider making an appointment, I hope you enjoy your time here. I consider the best compliment to be your business or referral.
Times in our lives may be brief but a photo can remind you for infinity and I hope to see you from behind my camera soon!
